Over 200 houses in Tatopani were washed away in the floods

A flash flood on the Bhotekosi River that flows down from Tibet to Nepal has swept away at least 21 houses in Tatopani village of Sindhupalchok district on the Nepal-China border.More than 200 houses are at high risk of floods in the vicinity. Over 200 houses from Tatopani VDC’s Larcha to Liping located on the banks of the river were washed away. Locals had fled to safety after the houses started to cave in due to erosion by the flood water. Sindhupalchowk DAO said that no human casualty was reported in the incident. Border Police Office Larcha said erosion by the River has put as many as 200 houses at high risk. The rain-fed river has washed away 50 metres black-topped road at Kodari along the Araniko Highway. According to Border Police Office, the flood swept away Mansarobar Boarding School and washed away 50 per cent of a dam of the Upper Bhotekoshi Hydro Project at 10-kilo. Locals say that flood might cause more damage as the rain has not ceased.
